Listen and learn over 300 bird songs and calls from across the continental United States, with up to 34 seconds of song for each bird, and alternative recordings for some birds. The songs and calls are of the highest quality, most provided by the world-renowned Macaulay Library at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.

On first use, Chirp! selects birds for your current location, but then you are free to select any state (or group of states) on the Map Screen, to learn the common species from east to west and north to south. Or you may prefer to select all birds to learn the whole range! Try sorting by song style, so that you can compare birds that hoot and coo, or those with high pitched songs for example. If you are a beginner, sort the birds by commonness, so you can listen to the most common ones first, then move on to less frequent backyard visitors.

Make a shortlist of your favourites so that you can find them quickly (tap the + icon above the image to add birds to your favorites list).

After listening, try the quiz to test your memory. Answer fast to earn a score multiplier and get on the high score table! Experienced birders can use the custom quiz to help distinguish and learn similar songs.

And when you need a rest, try the slideshow feature - choose which birds to include, maybe add background bird song, then simply relax. If you want to continue learning while you relax, switch the voiceover on and hear the name of the bird announced at the end of each clip. This is also a good way of competing with the family - who can say the name of the bird first?

iBird Lite is a significant departure from our iBird family of products and, for this reason, it deserves particular attention. First and foremost, it is an app designed to grow. As a free download, you can get an idea if you like the app while you have fun exploring the 50 common bird species of North America loaded into it. If you decide you want to get more serious about birding, there is no need to buy another version of iBird or worry about which version to run at what particular moment.

iBird Lite, with its new architecture, covers all situations and conditions. It allows you to choose any or all of the four countries available that you wish to access and study. Currently you can select a birding database for North America (with 942 species), the United Kingdom (343 species), Hawaii (283) or the wonderful nation island of Palau (169).

Beginners to birding, who just wish to get acquainted with the birds of North America, only need to purchase the North America database. You will download this from inside the app’s Country menu and get 942 species. The details included with each bird vastly exceed what you will find in any app, including multiple photos, an HD-resolution, scientific quality illustration with a field marks layer (you can turn on and off), and a large array of playable calls and songs of each bird. Importantly, since this is a field guide, you find a copious quantity of reference material in a friendly and accessible format.

The smaller 50 species database of the free iBird Lite, as well as the full 942 species North America database has been completely updated to align with the 2018 American Ornithological Union (AOU) checklist. Plus, iBird Lite contains all the features of our full paid apps, it can help you learn what a fascinating hobby birding can be.

A "plug-in store" is provided in iBird Lite, where you can purchase additional features to make your birding hobby even more enjoyable. You can find these new features on the in-app purchases screen, which is found on the Purchases menu, located on the left Navigation menu. Here is a list of what is available now.

◆ Photo Sleuth, using an artificial intelligent "neural network", identifies any North America species from a photo, even if the photo is of questionable quality, such as blurry, lacking in contrast and obscured by foliage.
◆ Birds Around Me (BAM) narrows the species to just those within a specified radius around your GPS location. You can enter any location you wish, as well as specific seasons and radius sizes.
◆ Percevia Smart Search turns anyone into a birding expert by using our patented identification search algorithm based on any of 35 characteristics. For example, pick Shape = Hawk-like and iBird will isolate 40 raptor species; next pick Birds Around Me and iBird will narrow this list to just the 18 raptors in your GPS area; pick Size = Very Large and iBird will narrow the results to just the 2 species greater than 32 inches long: the Bald Eagle and the Golden Eagle.
◆ Time of Day filters birds by activity intervals: day or night, dawn and dusk, daytime or night time only.
◆ Mexican Owls gives you the most popular owls of Mexico and Central America.
◆ Everything Bundle includes everything above at a significant discount.

OTHER UNIQUE FEATURES OF IBIRD

■ iBird’s icon-driven visual search engine enables you to identify birds using shape, color, location, habitat, head pattern, flight pattern, bill shape, length and more.

■ The powerful search engine means no longer scrolling through dozens of wrong choices. iBird matches just those birds near you that fit your description.

■ Search by common name, Latin name and even band code.

■ Post, keep lists, and share sightings with friends and followers with a user-friendly Notes and Favorites interface.

■ iBird’s database is completely self-contained; no internet connection is required like many other birding apps.

iBird Plus is our entry level birding app and is priced appropriately. Unlike Ultimate it lacks the built-in features Birds Around Me and Percevia™ Smart Search. This final version of iBird Plus contains our most recent North America database with 946 species (962 including Mexican Owls). It has been updated with the latest 2018 American Ornithological Union (AOU) standard, described in detail in What's New. We have also added a new Purchases menu that contains optional features you can purchase to enhance the app. These include an amazing Birds Around Me, Percevia™ Smart Search, the Photo Sleuth feature that uses a neural network to identify birds from any photo, the patented Percevia search engine, and several others.

As this is the last version of iBird Plus, we are providing users with our new version of iBird Lite which gives you free access to the same North America database in iBird Pro. Lite has been designed with the future in mind. It has been totally overhauled and is now a “consolidated” app, meaning with iBird Lite, you can buy and install databases for any of 4 countries. Again, unlike other bird apps, these databases are inside the app, which allows you to use them in the field with no Internet connection.

If you'd like to move to this new version of iBird Lite, simply install this new 12.01 version of iBird Plus on your device (iPhone or iPad) and then install the new 12.01 iBird Lite. When you open iBird Lite you’ll see a free copy of the North America database, normally a $17.99 purchase. ALSO, YOU WILL DISCOVER THAT ALL IN-APP PURCHASES (EXCEPT PHOTO SLEUTH) ARE FREE — OUR GIFT TO YOU FOR BEING A LOYAL IBIRD CUSTOMER.

About iBird Plus

iBird™ Plus is the best app if you are serious about birding but want to keep your investment low. The app has most of the great features of the iBird product line. For the most advanced app, see iBird Lite, our new consolidated app. If you want to take your birding skills up a level or two, iBird Plus includes in-app purchases for features such as the Percevia™ Smart Search feature that gives anyone the skills of a bird identification expert, and the “Birds Around Me” (BAM) feature that restricts the birds to just those found in your current GPS area.

In addition, this new version 12.01 of iBird Plus, takes a major leap forward with “Time of Day” filtering. You can now search for birds by activity levels during day or night (Cathemeral), dawn and dusk (Crepuscular), during the day (Diurnal) or during the night (Nocturnal).

More Details of What’s New: https://ibird.com/whats-new/whats-new.html

Whether you are an experienced or a beginner birder, iBird Plus starts with 946 species of both native and rare North American species, as well as popular Hawaiian birds. It has been updated with the 2018 AOU and ABA checklists. This increases to 962 species when you purchase the in-app Mexican Owls database option.

With the iBird Plus’s avian matching system, you can search for birds by color, location, shape, habitat or any one of our 35 identification field marks to find your bird. iBird's comprehensive species pages have 3,300 built-in bird songs, 4,500 professional high-resolution bird photographs, 1,700 hand-drawn composite illustrations and over 1,000 range maps.

Version 12.01 of iBird Plus Guide to Birds now includes iCloud for backing up and sharing your own photos, notes and favorites among all your devices and a share feature that lets you send any species page via Mail, Messages, etc.

With over 1 million downloads, iBird is the standard by which all birding apps are measured.

iBird Pro, our most popular app, which covers all species of North America, now contains databases for other countries, including the UK and Hawaii, as well as several new features, such as Photo Sleuth.

Besides the fact that iBird was the first birding app for the iPhone (released in 2008), it offers a combination of luxury features that set it apart from all birding apps in the iTunes app store. For example, only iBird offers both illustrations and photographs for every species. Of course, the beauty of drawings is that the illustrator can emphasize the important identification markings of the bird family, something photographs can’t do. For this very reason, iBird offers over 1,000 composite illustrations. Photographs, on the other hand, let you see how the species appears in real life. So, to optimize your experience, iBird includes both drawings and multiple photos for each species of bird -- usually of the male, female, juvenile and subspecies, assuming they are available and meaningful.

Also unique to iBird, every one of the 946 species accounts contain a detailed field marks layer for each illustration. The layer can be turned on or off to highlight important identification characteristics. Every illustration in iBird is a high-resolution composite HDR drawing of the species in its natural environment. Additionally, iBird contains over 4,000 bird song and call vocalizations.

But iBird's best feature has to be its comprehensive birding search engine that can turn anyone into an expert birder. It comes with over 35 characteristics that can be searched (such as body color, location, bill shape, etc.). There is also an AI-based photo recognition feature -- iBird Photo Sleuth -- available as a low-cost in-app purchase. Photo Sleuth can identify a bird from any photograph, even poor photos taken with your smartphone or tablet. You can watch a short slide show of how Sleuth works here: bit.ly/ibirdsleuth. A stand-alone version of Photo Sleuth is also available in the app store.

No internet connection is required to use iBird as it has a self-contained database of all content.

Also new to this iBird Pro version are the 2018 American Ornithological Union updates, including new splits, changes to common names, families, orders, etc. We’ve updated 37 high-resolution species illustrations, that, as you know, are one thing that sets iBird apart from all other birding apps, which only offer photographs. See What's New for more details.

The iBird Pro architecture is now “consolidated”, meaning its default North America database is supplemented with databases of other countries, including the United Kingdom and Ireland, Hawaii and Palau. You can purchase databases for these countries and instantly switch between them inside the app. The beauty is that you no longer need multiple apps -- a single version of iBird Pro can now serve as a reference guide to birds around the world. Furthermore, you can install iBird Pro on multiple devices and share it with your family plan so that, with one app, everyone can enjoy thousands of new species of regions around the world.

iBird Pro offers these fantastic in-app purchase features: Birds Around Me (BAM)—shows just those species within a radius surrounding your GPS location Percevia™ smart search—a patented feature that helps you identify birds just like the birding experts, Time-of-Day—lets you search for birds by activity levels during day or night (Cathemeral), dawn and dusk (Crepuscular), etc., and Owls of Mexico and Central America—which includes illustrations with field marks, range maps, songs and calls and much more for these remarkable species. There are also discounted bundles of all these features available.

Version 12.01 adds 69 new illustrations—to see these go to Search->Illustration Update-12.0 and 12.1.
